Contrary to what many people believe, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. In fact during a hypnotherapy session a person can be in a heightened state of awareness. It is an altered state of consciousness which enables the conscious mind to be bypassed in order to access the subconscious mind, so that change can be generated. You still have control and can stop the session at any time. It is an opportunity to heal deep wounds, to receive positive suggestions and reframe negative thought processes.
